Condoms have become the new precious item being targetted by smugglers along the porous Indo-Nepal border.
It is not only low price goods that are smuggled to the Indian market through the open border, condom has also been added to the smugglers comodity list, a media report said.
The UP police has confiscated two suitcases full of condoms in a raid at Rupadhiya railway station, an Indian town that shares border with Nepal's Banke district, the Nepal news online said.
The move by the police came following reports in Banke district that condoms being distributed free of cost by NGOs and health institutions for checking spread of HIV/AIDS in Nepal is being smuggled to India to be sold in the markets.
Nepalese police say that they have increased vigilance at the border-checkpoint to discourage such activities.
